FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Each of our three clinicians set our own fees which can be found on our bios.

We certainly do! Check with your insurance provider to see if they cover the services of a Registered Social Worker.

Yes. You can find each of our standard rates on our bio pages, and please connect with us individually to inquire about our sliding scale options as our fees, availability, and wait times for sliding scale spots can vary.

Oof… Great question.

Something led you to find our website - and to read enough about us to find the bottom of this FAQs page - so maybe a part of you is feeling curious about whether therapy might be right for you. Still - being undecided or on the fence is totally normal!

Many of our clients find us when they are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, overworked, and exhausted, like nothing is working and ever will, and feel like help might be needed to make a meaningful change in that cycle.

But also – if you really want to know if working with us could be right for you, why not just book a free, 15-minute, no obligation consult call with one of us? In that call we will: ask you about why you’re considering therapy; talk a bit about our approach and how we might be able to help; and you can ask questions and get a sense of our personality and what we might have to offer. Did we mention this is free and there’s no obligation to commit?

Absolutely! But we get where this question comes from.

Something that can be missed in mainstream therapy is that ADHD minds fundamentally work and operate differently from what we call neurotypical (or “normal”) brains. They also require different strategies and supports to find that inner sense of calmness and peace that comes with knowing how to use your own brain – they need a different user manual, if you will.

There are many talented therapists in Ontario who specialize in a range of non-ADHD things.

But when it comes to the unique challenges faced by ADHDers, some ‘normal’ advice falls short – because that advice was literally crafted by and for people with different kinds of minds. (Advice such as: just write a to-do list! Have you tried using a journal? Are you sleeping/eating/exercising? What about colour-coding and cross-referencing?) (And yes, those ideas are great in theory… but have you ever used them for longer than a week or two? We sure haven’t.)

Advice like this is well-meaning, and seems easy, but fundamentally does not work for most ADHDers. This can lead to feeling chronically misunderstood, incapable of following advice or succeeding at ‘basic’ tasks, or like you have to work 1000x as hard as everyone else just to accomplish the same things. (How many timers did you have to set to get up early to rehearse that presentation? How many rough drafts did you scrap because they weren’t perfect? How many hours of sleep did you lose because you just COULDN’T start that project until the last possible moment, and now you’re working well, but terrified of running out of time?)

Not to mention, that feeling of questioning yourself and if this was real at all, when on a random Tuesday three weeks later, you finish your entire to-do list on a whim because you suddenly had the energy, and now you’re left wondering if it was all in your head and why that was even hard in the first place? (????????)

TL;DR: ADHD is a real experience, with real challenges, and real contradictions too. What works one day may not work the same the next day, and what works for others certainly doesn’t seem to work for us. BUT, there actually is help when you realize ADHD might be a factor, and start to support that part of your experience. Getting the right help can make a big difference.
